The disadvantage of not using HTML images in an email signature is that the recipient will constantly see images attached to your emails and will think you have attached something, but it’s just your logo. Some emails with attachments can also easily end up in spam. The downside of HTML signatures is that they can also end up in spam. Therefore, it is important that if you send from an email address called “(yourname)@yourdomain.dk” that you also upload your logo on the website e.g. yourdomain.dk. For example, my logo is in my email signature at macgeni.dk/mailsignatur/ and therefore my emails do not end up in spam because I also send from info@macgeni.dk – i.e. the same domain name on the email as the image file is located on.

How to add an HTML signature to Apple Mail: step by step (with screenshots)
- Open Apple Mail on your Mac and click on the Mail menu. From the drop-down menu, select “Preferences.”
-
Within “Settings”, click on the “Signatures” tab to see a list of all your signatures. To add a new signature, click the “+” button.
-
Add placeholder text to your signature. This text will be replaced by your HTML signature, so you don’t have to worry about the content.
-
Drag the signature to your email account in the left column and select your signature under “Select signature.”
-
Next, close the preferences window and quit Apple Mail. It is important to close Apple Mail completely. When you exit, your signature will be saved in your system. This is a placeholder until you implement the HTML signature by following the steps below.
-
To install your HTML email signature, select “Go > Go to folder” in the Finder menu.
-
In the window, enter “~/Library/Mail” and click the “Go” button.
-
In the new window that appears, click on the folder with the highest number after the letter “V.” This folder contains the latest version.
- choose “MailData.”
- choose “Signatures.”
- In the Signatures folders, you will see a list of signature files. Find the file you just edited by examining the “Modified” date and open the most recent file ending with “.mailsignature.”
-
Right-click on the signature file and select “Open with > TextEdit.”
-
While a TextEdit window is open with the .mailsignature file, open your pre-made HTML signature file in another TextEdit window.
-
Select the entire content of your pre-made HTML signature (CMD + A) and copy the data (CMD + C). Select the content starting with “<body…” in your .mailsignature file and replace it with your pre-made HTML data (CMD+V). Do not delete the data above “<body…”
-
Your .mailsignature file should look something like this after replacing the text.
-
Save the file and close TextEdit.
-
Right-click on the email signature you just edited and select “Get details.”
-
Check the checkbox labeled “Locked” to prevent Apple Mail from overriding your new HTML signature. Important: Do not omit this step or Apple Mail will override your signature.
- Confirm that the signature looks as you expect. Open Apple Mail and navigate back to Signatures to do this.
Congratulations! You have now successfully added an HTML signature to Apple Mail.

Do you want html signature on your iphone and ipad?
- First, you need to set up the email signature on your Mac, as I’ve shown above.
- Next, send an email to yourself with the new email signature.
On your iPhone, copy the new email signature in the email you sent to yourself. - Go to Settings – Mail – Signatures and click where you want to paste it and click again with your finger and select “paste”.
- Now your email signature looks a bit weird, so shake your phone… Yes, that’s how you undo something on your phone.
- It will ask you if you want to undo “formatting” and you select yes.
- Now your email signature should be formatted to HTML so it looks like the one you sent to yourself by email.
